The following is our submission, in partnership with American Bureau of Shipping, for the Best Vendor Partnership category:
The teams of HRToolbox, Inc. of Atlanta, Georgia and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) of Houston, Texas have worked together to achieve significant time savings for the ABS expatriate management team when updating and distributing balance sheets each quarter.
Prior to our joint solution, the ABS team spent several weeks each quarter calculating new balance sheets and manually distributing them to each individual assignee and his or her manager. Our combined efforts on this project reduced the time-consuming process from several weeks to a couple of days.
How did we do this? We tailored the compensation worksheet calculation to address the specific needs of ABS, we developed a custom compensation report to clearly communicate updates to each employee and to each payroll, and we set up an automatic compensation package distribution process to notify assignees and their managers of the compensation updates.
This is just one example of how HRToolbox partners with ABS to create a successful solution that provides immediate results.

The HRToolbox Team and the ABS Team worked together to:
- Tailor the compensation worksheet calculation to address the specific needs of ABS. We incorporated flexibility to (a) calculate split payroll by percentage of pay or by specific amount, (b) determine the split per compensation item or based on the total, and (c) split the payroll into multiple currencies (home currency, host currency and other currencies) based on custom exchange rates entered for each payroll period.
- Develop a custom compensation report to clearly communicate to each employee and to each payroll. The custom compensation report displays the compensation items and split payroll in a meaningful way that is easy for each employee to understand. The report also clearly details the amounts to be paid by each payroll.
- Set up an automatic compensation package distribution process to notify assignees and their managers of the compensation updates. This portion of the project was a key factor in generating significant time savings. Once all compensation packages have been reviewed and approved, the auto-distribution process sends the compensation packages via email to all assignees and their managers. Managers are identified for each employee by designating them as regional payroll resources within the HRToolbox application. Each payroll resource receives the compensation packages for his or her population only.
This is just one example of how HRToolbox partners with ABS to create a successful solution that provides immediate results. Through the years, we have partnered together on numerous projects such as the one discussed here to improve upon the services provided by the HRToolbox Team. ABS has been a client of HRToolbox, Inc. since July 2007 and our relationship continues to strengthen.

Prior to HRToolbox, balance sheet calculation from start to finish took several weeks. By using HRToolbox, this time was reduced to a number of days. Interestingly enough, as our expatriate population grew, use of HRToolbox allowed us to effectively streamline the process and accommodate the rapid growth of the expatriate population and take care of the employees.
